  • JR whole train in Africa

Posted on October 7, 2009 by grandscheme

I was blown away when I saw the work of French artist JR so I thought I'd share it with yall.
    Bellow article stolen from supertouchart.com

"French outdoor installation artist (call it “street art” if you must) extraordinaire JR continues his epic 28 MILLIMETER: WOMEN Project, his most ambitious stage yet in KIBERA, KENYA. Reconnecting with the subjects he photographed over a year ago in the city—one of the largest slums in Africa—at the start of his mission to portray on a grand scale the unseen and unempowered women of the world, the reunion was an especially poignant moment for the artist. With the help of enthusiastic residents, JR managed to cover 2,000 square meters of local rooftops with photos of the eyes and faces of the women of Kibera, giving them a monumental voice and presence in a city where their own existence is often marginalized. Most of the subjects had their photos installed atop their own roofs and for the first time in JRs global series of installations, the material used is water-resistant enabling that the photo itself to protect the fragile houses in the upcoming rainy season. In order to further spread his message throughout the massive city, JR also encapsulated the local train that runs through the area twice daily with the eyes of local women alongside those of women photographed in Brazil, India, Cambodia, and other parts of Africa whose stories and images reveal a global solidarity of plight and purpose. The pinnacle of the experience, however, comes when the eyes on the moving train align with the static bottom halves of the subject’s faces posted along the train’s embankment, completing the smiling portraits for a split second in rapid succession before moving on to the next village where the experience is repeated. Somehow that stencil art on your local 7-11 will never seem quite so cool again, eh?"

JR also has a installation sowing in Paris from the 3 of October to the 2 of November, it would definitely be worth checking out. see more amazing work here.

Mafia from Sneaker freaker just sent me this look at there new collaboration with AIAIAI... they look really nice, get them while there hot, here's what they had to say..

Introducing the Sneaker Freaker x AIAIAI earbuds. This is the first collaboration for the Copenhagen-based electronics company and we are delighted to be their virgin partner!

Designed using the classic Sneaker Freaker corporate colours, these minty morsels look good enough to eat. The subtle grey speckle on the ear piece and Y-pipe add a veneer of sneaker-smarts to the aesthetic equation! Whether you’re on the subway, running a marathon or riding your pushbike, you’ll welcome the knowing nods of your fellow commuters as they admire your connoisseur status.

Their beauty is more than skin-deep. AIAIAI’s buds are trick enough to satisfy any eardrum’s demands for full spectrum clarity and bass performance. Constructed using a clever tangle-free rubber compound, you can also plug the buds into your iPod, iPhone or Blackberry and have full hands-free operation. And if that’s not enough, each tube also comes with different sized latex tips so you’ll know they’ll always custom fit your ears like a glove!

Stocks are limited on these earbuds so get yours now exclusively from our online store!

  • joels hand vs white tip spider

Posted on August 16, 2009 by grandscheme

My mate Joel.. (see bellow).. just got back home from a intensive care after he was bitten by a white tip spider..
He was on tour in Perth with his band The Amity Affliction when it happened, he didn’t know he had been bitten when he woke up with what he thought was a really bad hangover. His hand wasn't swollen yet but he had a fever, the cramps and just felt like crap. By the next day he was feeling a bit better so he ignored it for 4 days until his hand blew up and he started feeling like he was going to die. He ended up in hospital for 10 days, he had to have 2 operations and ended up in intensive care for the last 4.
The white tip spider has a bacteria on its fangs that kills your flesh and makes it not heal..
The whole in his hand is not from the bite but where the surgeons cut away dead flesh and drained out fluid etc.. brrr gross. the doctors said he was lucky that they didn’t have to amputate his hand..
HECTIC.. glad your ok now and still have your hand.. even if it does look like a morbid vagina.
